About ButchOnTap

I am a butch. This blog is about what I think.

If you do not know what butch means, you are probably on the wrong blog. In the interests of inclusion, though, I can tell you that “butch” means a lesbian that is big, strong, tough, more macho, less girly. Of course, there are no hard and fast rules – which is an ongoing theme in my blog and in the comments – but those are the basics. A butch will most likely not wear makeup. A butch is often referred to as “sir” by someone who is not paying attention.

What else? I am, after all, not just a butch. I am head over heels in love with my wife (a gorgeous femme) and the happy mother of two. I am also a lover of, in no particular order, femmes, beer, bow ties, breasts, kayaking, movies, hiking, bookstores, travel, dogs, high heels, geocaching, polar bears, the gym, music, lingerie, gadgets, and more. By day, I am an intrepid corporate entertainment lawyer. Although I try hard not to be labeled as such – sporting a bleached blonde Mohawk, for example. Think more entertainment and less corporate. By night, bring it all on!

In my blog, I talk about things from a butch perspective, but this is not just for butches. We love our femmes. Please do not let me offend femmes! If you like what you read here, I hope you will comment and let me know what you think. If you do not like what you read, well, what the hell do I care? Start your own blog.

Be butch.

I am sending this email on behalf of The Lesbian Lounge on http://www.mylesbianradio.com to advise you that the ladies have a segment on their show where an internet site is featured. Denise, one of the hosts of the show, has selected your blog as the “Cool Blog of the Week” on this week’s live show, July 25, 2012.

The Lesbian Lounge airs on http://www.mylesbianradio.com on Wednesday nights from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (EST). It’s a LGBT talk show that streams live and has the long-time best friends catching up weekly, as Denise resides in the U.K. and Donna is in the U.S. The topics range from food, travel, books, recipes, TV, promoting events from all over, discussing news, gossip, and music. There is also an interactive chatroom where 20 to 30 people go to chat during the show. The ladies usually have special guests lined up to call into the show to talk about their various products, projects or schedules (depending on if it is a business or a musician, etc).

The recorded show is put on the website where you can listen, and they are also posted as podcasts on iTunes for a free downloads. Archived shows are always available for new listeners, as well.

We wanted to let you know so you can check out the show live or the podcast. It will be a brief review of your site, and its location, but we wanted to let you know that we selected you for Wednesday night’s show. This also automatically puts you in the running for their annual awards, features on the MLR site, and gets the word out to over 2,000 listeners a month.

Thank you for your time. Please contact me or Denise@mylesbianradio.com if you have any questions or need any further information in this regard.
    Sincerely,
    Julie Monroe

I am from NYC but I use to live in San Diego in the early 80’s for approx 3 years – i lived in Hill Crest and at the time there was one gay club West Coast Productions – though Hill Crest was basically gay – no one flaunted their sexuality. In 2010 I returned to Ocean Beach, San Diego for my nephew’s wedding and was so pleasantly surprised re the gay community – club after club – lesbian club after lesbian club – street fairs. . .keep it going San Diego. . .

      Patti,

How great to have that perspective. Things have definitely gotten gayer in America’s Finest City! Thank you so much for stopping by and especially for taking the time to comment. Stick around!

I just wanted somewhere to post a note to let you know how much I love your blog! I particularly enjoy seeing your shrewd, to-the-point advice to butches and femmes alike, including your hashtagged tweets. Now if only I could get my particular most-loved butch to take some of your hints to heart! 😉

Thank you for taking the time to share your wit. You’re appreciated!

    Butch,
A good friend of mine just sent me the “Why i hate the TSA” blog. I too have trouble with the same issue of being mistaken for a man in public. It can be very frustrating. But here is what struggle with the most. I DONT feel like a woman on the inside. I am in the beginning stages of transitioning ftm. So part of me gets excited to hear “sir” and the other part of me says “FREAK”. I live in Oklahoma so it’s not an easy life to live as you can imagine. I have endured the pain, hatred, and disappointment you have felt with a heavy heart. Thank you for blogging your story. Its nice to know i am not alone.

Today I realized that your blog is Butch On TAp rather than Butch On TOp. But it’s an honest mistake, right? Because Butch On Top tototally makes sense—in a stereotypical way, but still …

I found your 2 year old article on powerlifting just now on Huffington Post. My husband was a competitive PL for 15 years and is trying to come out retirement. He’s also a lawyer, PI. No Mohawk though. I hope you’re still lifting. I’m finally trying to get into it. I love the sweat and callouses so far. My femurs are made for squats but ding dang, I hate those DL! Look forward to reading your blog!
